Australia's first international prison art exhibition

It's been a while friends, but that's because I've been behind the scenes working on several different projects, the largest of which is definitely the first art exhibition I've ever curated.

As well as being a first for me, it's also a first for Australia. Paper Chained International is the first Australian art exhibition dedicated to showing prison art from both around Australia, but also the world. Over the last several months I have collected over 100 artworks from 25 different prisons in 8 different countries, including from all over Australia. The art exhibition will be held at Boom Gate gallery in Sydney, with a launch party on May 2nd from 5:30-7:30pm. The exhibition will remain up at the gallery for the rest of May.

As the name might imply, the art exhibition evolved out of my work as editor of Paper Chained magazine, which released its 13th issue back in March. Outside of the exhibition, working on the magazine, and my PhD, as always I've still found extra time for a few other projects. The Medical Journal of Australia recently published a letter I wrote about the lack of Medicare access in prisons. You can expect to hear some big news about that issue in time. I've also taken on a new contract to illustrate all the cover art for season 13 of Ear Hustle. It's great to be working with the Ear Hustle team again. Do check out their podcast (and my artworks!) if you haven't already, and if you can't make it to the art exhibition in May, you'll be able to read all about in the September issue of Paper Chained magazine, so go to the website and subscribe to the mailing list if you want to keep up to date with that.
